Of course, many hearing lesbians were fascinated with sign language. I had sex with many of them during the 1970s, and--this is really interesting--they asked, "How do deaf people make love in the dark?" I said, "We leave the lights on." They were shocked. And so they learned that that was how we deaf people need to see more. In a way, I was educating my hearing lovers that having the lights on was an enjoyable twist on lovemaking. And it helped us to communicate more with our hearing partners.
